Artist Bio
Christophe Masson is a French multidisciplinary artist whose transdisciplinary practice, developed since 1995, combines photography, music, writing, video, and abstract images in an experimental approach nourished by philosophy, including the works of Nietzsche and Plato, as well as the fragments of Heraclitus. Committed for over 20 years to fostering intercultural understanding, he explores intercultural dialogue through immersive and collaborative creations. He is the founder of the DECLIC collective, through which he produces performances combining music, images, cinematic references, video, and narratives.
Statement
The Mediterranean is an ancient crossroads, a timeless convergence of people, goods, ships, ideas, and religions.
It is not one thing, but a thousand: a mosaic of landscapes, a chain of seas, a layering of civilizations—each nested within the next.
To represent the Mediterranean is to journey through it—to uncover the Roman world in Lebanon, prehistory in Sardinia, Greek cities in Sicily, and the Arab legacy in Spain. It is to dive into the depths of centuries, into the unparalleled tapestry of its cultural heritage.
For decades, I have wandered its shores, and each time, I am left astonished, captivated, disoriented. I strive, like a simple transmitter, to capture its essence in images, words, and songs.
Yet my efforts always feel incomplete, like Sisyphus’s eternal task. For the Mediterranean is an endless well of inspiration.
