Artist Bio
Seda İsadora Duman is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, video, performance, and dance. Rooted in embodied practice, her work explores the relationship between the body, nature, and place through feminist and ecological perspectives. Rather than treating landscapes as backdrops, she approaches them as active collaborators, creating works in which movement emerges through direct encounters with natural environments, ancient sites, water, stone, and organic materials. She studied Performance Arts, Arts Management, and Cinema at Istanbul Bilgi University.
Statement
EMBODYING MEDITERRANEAN LAYERS
Embodying Mediterranean Layers is an ongoing photographic series born from a desire to experience my body within the distinctive landscapes of the Mediterranean Basin. Through intuitive dance and movement, I enter places shaped by geology, history, water, and vegetation—not to perform for them, but to experience what it means to exist among them.
Each photograph records a temporary encounter between body and place. Ancient ruins, cisterns, caves, forests, streams, rocky coastlines, and abandoned mines are approached not as backdrops but as active environments that shape movement. Rather than imposing choreography, I allow each site to guide the body’s responses.
Moving through these Mediterranean layers, I explore the body as part of an interconnected landscape where nature, history, and human presence continuously influence one another. The series reflects an embodied dialogue with the places I inhabit through feminist and ecological perspectives.
