Brigitte Verstuyft: A Practice Shaped Across Generations

Belgian artist Brigitte Verstuyft returns to artistic creation following a lifelong immersion in a family of artists. Raised among canvases, brushes, and creative gestures, art has never been a profession alone, but a way of inhabiting the world.

Working intuitively, Verstuyft allows colour, material, and texture to guide her process. Her recent body of work explores personal reflection through mixed media compositions, often incorporating fragments of cardboard and layered materials.

Her ongoing project, Cartons volants ( Flying Cardboard ) , tranforms everyday remnants into visual narratives – capturing moments of life, memory, and transformation on canvas. Through collage, paint, and assemblage, she creates tactile surfaces that balance fragility and strength.

Verstuyft’s practice reflects a deeply personal dialogue between material and emotion, where discarded elements find renewed presence and meaning.
