Artist Bio
Simone was born in Biella in 1977. He studied Urban, Territorial and Environmental Planning and graduated from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 2003 with a thesis exploring the relationship between cartography and photography as a way of developing a point of view on the territory. He has worked as a photographer for a news agency and collaborated with artistic and cultural organisations, documenting events and activities. Since 2010, he has focused on social issues, working with cooperatives and organisations active in the fields of physical and mental disability, as well as economic and social hardship. In 2016, he began working as a support teacher, while continuing to develop his personal photographic projects and collaborations.
Statement
LIMEN
This project explores the Mediterranean not as a map of places, but as a mental and visual state: a threshold, a limen. The sea, by its very nature, is a fluid boundary that does not separate, but connects. In these photographs, the concept of a boundary takes on the form of flesh, shadow and light. These are images populated by figures suspended in a suspended moment in time. The threshold thus becomes the only possible geography: a place of perpetual transit where everything is in a state of flux.
